Dr. Jen Henderson from Texas Tech Geosciences visited the SHARE Lab. Dr. Henderson is an expert geographer who studies risks, equity, and safety issues during various kinds of disasters. She usually works with decision-makers and essential workers such as weather broadcasters. During her visit, she tried a VR-based firefighting simulator and observed simulated medical emergencies using manikins.
Dr. Changwon Son has been accepted to be a Member of Texas Tech STEM CORE. STEM CORE is a nationally-recognized resource that performs and facilitates collaborative and interdisciplinary activities in STEM education, outreach, and research. The primary mission of STEM CORE is to improve STEM outreach, research, and education at Texas Tech University and surrounding communities. Dr. Son, the Principal Investigator (PI) of the project, will work with Dr. Mihwa Park (TTU Instructional Design and Curriculum) and Dr. Wesley Wehde (TTU Political Science) for next three years.

Dr. Crescioni tried the FLAIM, a VR-based firefighting simulator and in the FIRM (First Incident Responder's Mental health) experiment.

SHARE Lab members, Dr. Changwon Son, Armina Mim, Viviana Dos Santos, and Austin Vaughn, attended 2023 HFES International Annual Meeting held in Washington DC. They presented recent research updates on firefighter's situation awareness, cognitive challenges of nursing student's EHR usage, and interventions for simulated firefighting teams. (Photo, from left to right: Dr. Son, Armina, Prof. Jose Orlando Gomes (current IEA president), and Austin) Dr. Changwon Son receives $855,760 from National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Gulf Research Program for a research project aimed at addressing issues with Stop-work authority, Ultimate work authority, Reporting unsafe conditions, and Employee participation (SURE) programs for offshore energy activities. Dr. Changwon Son will serve as a Project Director with three Project Investigators, Dr. Kerk Kee (Professor, TTU MCOM), Dr. Marshall Watson (Associate Professor, TTU PE), and Dr. Tyree Mitchell (Associate Professor, LSU School of Leadership and HRD).
