Viviana Dos Santos, a PhD student in SHARE Lab, has successfully passed her PhD defense on October 6, 2025. Viviana joined TTU and SHARE Lab in fall 2021. She has been investigating firefighter's situation awareness (SA) and published her work in Applied Ergonomics. Thanks to committee members, Drs. Eric Greenlee, Jennifer Cross, and Nade Liang. Dr. Changwon Son, an assistant professor in the Department of Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering at the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering at Texas Tech University, has received a $49,989 grant from the National Safety Council to address musculoskeletal disorders linked to overhead work in the manufacturing industry.
The funding comes from the council’s Musculoskeletal Disorders Research to Solutions (R2S) program. The project will focus on developing and testing a 3D-printed head and neck support device designed for workers performing prolonged overhead tasks, known as a known risk factor for musculoskeletal injuries.

Corey Shultz, a PhD student in SHARE Lab, and Dr. Changwon Son published a journal article at Journal of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (JHSEM).

The paper presents findings from interviews with incident commanders and emergency managers with respect to challenges and efforts of multiple simultaneous disasters (MSDs).

An AcciMap analysis of 2022 Itaewon Crowd Crush was published in Safety Science. This stucy analyzed the crowd crush that occurred during Halloween in Seoul, South Korea. This work was an international collaborative effort with Dr. Dong-Han Ham, Dr. Sangeun Jin, and Dr. Taezoon Park.

Dr. Jen Henderson from Texas Tech Geosciences visited the SHARE Lab. Dr. Henderson is an expert geographer who studies risks, equity, and safety issues during various kinds of disasters. She usually works with decision-makers and essential workers such as weather broadcasters. During her visit, she tried a VR-based firefighting simulator and observed simulated medical emergencies using manikins.
